Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Details: Rapidly expanding medical device business unit of a Fortune 200 company seeks an NPI Engineering Manager to join its growing team.   This is a high profile division and a real focal point of the company.   This is a home grown technology that was pulled out of another internal business unit and made into a separate BU to provide the focus and investment for growth.  This is a high growth dynamic business for the company. There are large capital investments being made involving a number of new equipment purchases to support new revenue opportunities.   Initially, this engineering manager will oversee 6 engineers (NPI, Sustaining, and Process) but the group will double in size over the next 6 months with you being the key person hiring these individuals.   Overall, this site is expected to grow 5 fold over the next couple of years and as we recruit on this role, we are also seeking someone that can be promoted to a plant manager level within 2-3 years.   That said, this is a high visibilty role with very good growth potential.   The company as a whole is a very metric driven operation that really recognizes solid performance.  We are looking for a highly motivated individual that has a demonstrated track record of taking on more and more challenge.  Ideal candidates will have proven leadership background leading NPI/Transfer projects within a medical device and/or industry where process validation is critical.Essential Functions: Plans and directs outsourced, project-specific Engineering resources and blends/aligns their activities with those internal resources of Supply Chain, Operations, Sales/Customer Service, Marketing and Quality. Manufacturing Engineer

Details: Job Summary: The Engineering Manager will be responsible for Manufacturing Engineering, process planning, coordinating, administering and guiding the staff and activities of the manufacturing engineering function of the organization. This will require coordination with other departments of the manufacturing division to assure that functional requirements are met at the lowest cost.  Directs and oversees Estimating and Planning processes to optimize all manufacturing operations.  Establishes policies and standards within the department, and provides administrative and technical assistance in support of department projects and research.  Essential Duties: The Engineering Manager’s responsibilities include the following:  Work closely with Management, Production, Quality and Marketing staff to discuss project specifications and procedures. Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities. Participate in the installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of department facilities and equipment. Direct, review, and approve process plans, drawings and changes. Work with HR to recruit employees, assign, direct, and evaluate their work, and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence. Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department. Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, , enforcing rules, and making decisions about the utilization of resources. Review and recommend or approve contracts and cost estimates. Develop and improve manufacturing processes as required to meet production demand. Work with the Impresa team to deliver new products on time.  Includes: capacity and capability assessment, process selection and development, SOP development, cell design & implementation, control plan development and capital project justification & implementation. Support continuous improvement activities to improve manufacturing operations. Lead Kaizen events as needed. Interface with colleagues, customers, vendors and others to understand requirements, assess feasibility of new/existing products, and improve production techniques. Analyze technology trends, plans and execute capital projects. Clearly communicate data and feedback to other departments so decisions can be timely and optimized. Apply Lean Manufacturing techniques to develop flow through manufacturing processes. Champion the use of lean manufacturing principles, based on systems thinking and the application of statistical methods, throughout the assigned manufacturing cells.   Develop Standard Operating Procedures. Assist in determining root cause and corrective action of non-conforming product and disposition in Epicor. Performs other duties as assigned or required by the position.

Details: Position Summary: To develop and evaluate new processes and improve current process capability, efficiency, and overall productivity in all areas of manufacturing in support of the Corporate WIN Strategy. Scope/Supervision and Interaction: This job has no supervisory responsibility; however, this position mentors entry-level Manufacturing Engineers and new employees. Must have ability to deal with people at a cross-functional level.  Position requires ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form in order to present information and respond to inquiries from employees, customers, and suppliers. Essential Functions: Develops innovative solutions to complex engineering and manufacturing production problems through identification and implementation of advanced manufacturing processes including conducting process analysis, applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials, conferring with suppliers, and soliciting observations from the operators/production technicians.  Refines and enhances processes by applying continuous improvement and key Lean manufacturing/production principles and techniques to areas of production.   Recommends product changes/improvements to Product Engineers. Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.  Coordinates input that may cross multiple teams or areas; makes recommendations, and implements changes. Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods, testing finished product and process capabilities, and establishing standards to confirm and validate manufacturing process requirements.  Determines root cause of failure using statistical methods (e.g., design of experiment, SPC) that may result in changes in design, tolerances, or processing methods. Evaluates capital equipment investments and prepares cost justifications.  Designs and prepares concept drawings of new equipment or modifications to existing equipment.  Manages the overall implementations of capital equipment projects. Develops tooling and fixtures for new products and processes and works with tooling vendors to supply such designs. Identifies and implements solutions for issues relating to safety, quality, productivity, and cost reductions. Prepares documentation for new manufacturing processes and engineering procedures.  Prepares reports summarizing analyzed process information and trends. Details: Job Description:The Regional Sourcing Associate for major capital investment is responsible for sourcing and procurement of; engineering, construction, automation, commissioning/qualification and engineered equipment for manufacturing sites in North America, with a principal focus in the continental United States. The role is part of the Global Manufacturing Procurement - Capital & Infrastructure team which is responsible for sourcing and managing the procurement of goods and services in a way that adds value to Global Facilities Delivery (GFD) projects and ensures Lilly remains competitive in the global pharmaceutical industry. In performing this role, the individual will utilize the Lilly Strategic Sourcing Process to provide the customer the greatest value within the allowed timeframe. The Sourcing Associate will lead procurement efforts on multiple projects with the goal of maximizing the value of capital spend from development of project strategy through contract management. The role includes managing relationships with the GFD organization and North American manufacturing sites while implementing cost-effective sourcing strategies for each project that meet project objectives, increase speed to market and reduce supply risk. Additionally, the role requires the Sourcing Associate to develop in-depth market segment knowledge within the process and pharmaceutical industries. Position Responsibilities: 1. Functional Technical Expertise:Requires depth of expertise within the discipline and recognition in a function or geographic region.Lead the sourcing process for all major capital projects (>$5M, total installed cost) at Lilly’s manufacturing sites in North America to acquire goods and services ($50 - $200MM annually). This includes the review of requirements, development of sourcing strategies, management of the supplier due diligence process, oversight of the RFP process, contract negotiation and award, and oversight of the contract management process. Additionally, the Sourcing Associate will provide oversight to maximize the value of local capital projects (<$5MM, total installed cost) for Indiana manufacturing sites.  2. Project/Financial Management: Leads major capital project(s) or multi-site program(s) with greater risk, resource/financial requirements, and/or complexity.Executes project procurement activities in accordance with both Global Procurement procedures and corporate policies. This includes a strong focus on competitive bidding, ensuring that recommendations are based on the most competitive technically and commercially acceptable sources, use of emerging market suppliers, and development of new suppliers. 3. Customer Focus & Problem Solving: Builds relationships with internal and external customers and partners. Interacts with regulators, customers or other outside stakeholders on business issues. Anticipates and resolves key technical, operational or business problems that impact North American manufacturing sites.Leads project procurement efforts for the assigned GFD project manager while reporting to Global Procurement. In addition, adapts and implement global procurement processes to seamlessly integrate into local manufacturing site requirements while maintaining appropriate segregation of responsibilities. Also, manages the procurement activities of resources from leveraged organizations and/or seconded team members who perform the majority of the procurement activities. The Sourcing Associate will deliver external market knowledge to GFD and North American manufacturing sites by establishing relationships with the supplier base, networking within the industry to establish contacts to bring market knowledge and technologies into Lilly, communicating local market dynamics to take advantage of market trends, developing risk mitigation strategies to facilitate continuity of supplier relationships, and managing conflict resolution within appropriate levels of the relationship. 4. Impact, Influence, & Decision Making:Drives solutions impacting results within North American manufacturing sites while influencing complex regulatory, business or technical issues within a business area and/or function. Makes decisions that impact the function or geography while partnering with the business to drive effective change.Understands the needs and goals of each project and the associated North American manufacturing sites in order to identify the most optimal solutions for the business consistent with appropriate risk management and local market conditions.
